Ray Therapeutics is developing novel optogenetics gene therapies for patients with blinding diseases. Position Summary:

We are currently seeking an exceptional team member who wants an active role as a Senior Research Associate to join our fast-growing team. We are looking for curious, passionate, and motivated scientists to join an organization developing the next generation of Optogenetics based gene therapy platform. The role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area office. Candidates must be able to spend a minimum of three days / week in the office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop high-throughput functional screening platforms for a portfolio of cell therapy applications
  • Develop, evaluate, optimize, and implement new technologies, laboratory protocols, and methodologies for biochemical and cell-based assays
  • Maintain familiarity with the relevant current literature and its application to multiplexing readouts and gene therapy
  • Interpret and effectively execute experiments in line with project timelines and goals
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Company

Qualifications and Experience:

  • BS or MS in related discipline
  • 3-5 years of hands-on lab experience in academia, biotech, biopharma, or pharmaceutical industry
  • Ability to quickly learn new skills and knowledge on the job, demonstrate productivity, and deliver high-quality results
  • Highly motivated, self-driven and results-oriented person, comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong knowledge of sterile technique with significant experience maintaining cell lines and primary cell cultures
  • Using molecular and cell biology techniques including RNA/DNA extraction from various ocular tissues, ddPCR, qPCR, genetic manipulation of cells (plasmid transfection, CRISPR editing, RNAi)
  • Running Western blots, Flow cytometry and ELISAs
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills, effective verbal/written communication skills, and critical problem-solving/analytical skills
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, as needed

Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of being at a stationary desk, work computer, or lab bench
  • Ability to occasionally adjust, handle, or move objects up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to assess the accuracy, neatness, and/or thoroughness of the work assigned
  • Ability to communicate with others to exchange information
