Position Summary:

We are seeking an exceptional scientist to join our growing team. This office-based position is located in Berkeley, California. We are looking for curious, passionate, and motivated individuals to contribute to the development of our next-generation Optogenetics-based gene therapy platform.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute experiments, offering creative solutions to complex problems; ability to work independently and think innovatively.
  • Optimize and oversee AAV production, including upstream growth, downstream purification, and assay execution (titering, quality control).
  • Provide molecular and cell biology support to execute standard cell culture processes, including transfection, transduction, selection, sub-cloning, clonal expansion, and banking, as well as cell model characterization.
  • Design and conduct in vitro cell-based and potency assays to support gene therapy research projects.
  • Collaborate in a laboratory setting to explore, develop, and validate novel models for inherited retinal diseases (IRD) and neurological disorders.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement novel methods or technologies to enhance workflow efficiencies and improve the quality of cell model deliverables.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • PhD degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Biotech industry experience is a plus.
  • Exposure to AAV production, purification, and analytical methods.
  • Hands-on experience in biochemistry techniques, including (but not limited to) qPCR, dPCR, ddPCR, western blot, immunoassays, FACs analysis, protein assay development and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with multiwell plate assays (e.g., 96 well plate AAV transduction of mammalian cells and imaging readout).
  • Experience in developing new biochemical and cell-based/potency assays.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and maintain high productivity in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, including training other team members.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of being at a stationary desk, work computer, or lab bench.
  • Ability to occasionally adjust, handle, or move objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to assess the accuracy, neatness, and/or thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Ability to communicate with others to exchange information.
