Accounting/Bookkeeping Supervisor (ABS)

Ray Therapeutics is developing novel optogenetics gene therapies for patients with blinding diseases. The company is developing its lead candidate RTx-015 in retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative retinal disease with significant unmet medical need. Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the Controller and working closely with the team onsite, the ABS will play a pivotal role in overseeing the company’s Bookkeeping and Accounting functions. This position involves entering data into the Company’s financial software applications, keeping records up to date, tracking all expenses, issuing PO’s, processing payroll, assisting with  month and year end close including bank reconciliations and account reconciliations. The role requires strong business acumen and effective cross-departmental collaboration. This a part-time office-based position (Tuesday – Thursday, between 10:00AM and 3:00PM); candidates will be expected to work in the company’s offices located in Berkeley, California.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Invoice, account coding and data entries.
  • Ensure the accounting system, spreadsheets and databases are populated with the correct data.
  • Assisting with financial reporting, accounting, internal controls, tax compliance, grant compliance and grant financial reporting.
  • Manage purchasing and procurement.
  • Ensuring compliance with all regulatory and corporate requirements related to financial and accounting functions.
  • Applying U.S. GAAP to all financial functions.
  • Undertaking other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in the biotechnology industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing internal and external controls, and working with the controller in preparing third-party annual audits.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently and perform well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, bill.com, QBO, and NetSuite.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily involves sitting and working on a computer.
  • Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and/or thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Ability to occasionally adjust, handle, or move objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Requires minimum of 3 days per week in office

 

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type, and length of experience within the industry, education, etc.
