The company is developing its lead candidate RTx-015 in retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative retinal disease with significant unmet medical need. Position Summary:

Position Summary:

  • Provide comprehensive financial updates to senior managers by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points.
  • Guide financial decisions by applying company policies and procedures to current economic landscape.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines.
  • Achieve budgeting goals with proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Maximize payroll efficiency through innovative process development.
  • Help develop and support short- and long-term operational strategies.

This is a full-time, exempt position.  Given the level of partnership between this role and the executive team, candidates should expect working in the company’s offices in Berkeley, California during regular business hours, Monday – Friday.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead financial reporting, accounting, internal controls, tax compliance, grant compliance and grant financial reporting.
  • Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows.
  • Manage Month/Quarter/Year End closing: post-adjust journal entries, complete bank reconciliations, prepare account reconciliations and associated schedules.
  • Ensure the accounting system, spreadsheets and databases are populated with the correct data.
  • Cash management: generate wire payments for domestic and international vendors, monitor bank balances and transfer funds as needed; report cash balances to management.
  • Manage purchasing and procurement: including identifying and implementing electronic purchasing system.
  • Accounts Payable: invoice processing, account coding and data entry; manage timely responses to inbound vendor inquiries; resolve vendor issues in a timely manner (as needed.)
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and corporate requirements related to financial and accounting functions.
  • Apply U.S. GAAP to all financial functions.
  • Undertake other responsibilities as assigned.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in accounting, preferably in the biotechnology industry; 3-5 years of this experience in a Sr. level accounting or finance manager roleDemonstrated experience in managing internal and external controls, and working with the the CFO in preparing third-party annual audits.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently and perform well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, bill.com, QBO, and NetSuite.
  • Professional certification, such as CPA (certified public accountant) or CA (chartered accountant)
  • Experience with CIRM financial reporting preferred but not required.

 

Working Conditions:

  •  Primarily involves sitting and working on a computer.
  • Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and/or thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Ability to occasionally adjust, handle, or move objects up to 20 pounds.
